Pushkar, pilgrimage town in Rajasthan

Pushkar, enchanting little town that fascinates every visitor with its temples around the holiest lake in India.

We arrived to this little, laid back hippie town on the night of Diwali, the festival of lights. Explosions of firecrackers that were accompanying us in the cities that we visited before, were replaced by oil lamps and street chaos with calm atmosphere around the lake and silent prayer from the temples.

We walked around the lake, past ghats and temples, observing people during their pray, caressing faces with holy water and  lighting candles. What we quickly learnt is that here true meaning of Diwali still exists. Festival is much more personal, spiritual, involving private celebration with family and it really is a blessing for a new year and new beginnings.
